Private Duty Pediatric Nursing • In-Home Skilled Care

We provide Pediatric Service in Birmingham, AL and the state of Alabama.

 

At CareFirst, we believe in providing compassionate, quality health care to you and your loved ones. We understand your child’s health and safety is a top priority for your family. Private Duty Pediatric Nursing (PDN) is a one-on-one service in which a licensed nurse cares for Medicaid recipients under 21 who require at least four consecutive hours of skilled nursing care daily. Skilled nursing care is prescribed by a physician and can only be provided by a RN or LPN.

 

DOES MY CHILD QUALIFY FOR PRIVATE DUTY PEDIATRIC NURSING?

Children with any one of the following:

  • Tracheostomy

  • Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN)

  • Continuous IV Therapy

  • Stage three or four decubitus ulcers

  • New or problematic cases of the following: colostomy or ileostomy, suprapubic catheter, nasogastric or gastrostomy feedings

  • Documented Illness or disability which requires continuous skilled observation, such as (but not limited to) any of the following:

    • unstable seizure disorder

    • unstable respiratory function

    • unstable vital signs

    • cardiac pacemaker

    • unstable shunted hydrocephalus

    • unstable neurological status

    • extensive or complete assistance with daily living activities

Per Medicaid Guidelines, Children with any two or more of the following:

  • Six hours per day or more of mechanical ventilator support

  • Needs frequent vent checks (day/night setting changes, active weaning, every 8 hours or more frequent parameter checks with changes)

  • Requires oxygen at or below 40% FiO2
